How We Met

Geoffrey and Matilda met when they started working together at the Social Security Administration in Baltimore. Sitting only three cubicles apart, they soon realized how many interests they had in common. After Matilda organized an office happy hour, Geoffrey asked Matilda out to dinner. Their first date went wonderfully and the two immediately clicked. At the end of dinner, it dawned on Matilda that they were on a date and their feelings for one another were mutual. What began as a friendship soon blossomed into something more over their many adventures throughout the United States. When the opportunity to return to Washington, DC arose, Geoffrey and Matilda jumped at the chance to get back to the city they both love and the rest is history.

About the Venue

Tabard Inn

The Tabard Inn, comprised of three 1800s rowhouses, is the oldest continuing running hotel in Washington, DC and opened its doors in 1922 by Marie Willoughby Rogers. The name Tabard Inn was drawn from Chaucer’s Canterbury tales and the place would forever revive itself in the hospitality of an old English Manor. The Inn’s early years were of social gatherings and afternoon tea, and the additions of the adjacent townhomes of 1741 and 1737 N St in the late 1920s and early 1930s completed what today is the entire property of the Tabard Inn. During World War II, the Inn became a boarding house for the Waves, (Navy Women Accepted to Emergency Services).
