Forced into playing the online dating game by friends visiting Julia from out of town, she set out to cure her boredom at the expense of weird men everywhere. Knowing she'd be moving home to Vermont eventually, she set her location to Montpelier and started swiping. Having no real want to meet anyone, the left swipe was all she knew, until she came upon the profile of the one and only Mathieu Choiniere. A feeling of terrifying lifetime commitment ran over Julia so she exited the app and re shuffled her men. Once again, Mathieu Choiniere appeared. Three more times she exited the app as she was not ready for a relationship that would undoubtedly end in marriage, but feared if she let him go, he would be gone forever. Eventually, she became irritated at the constant arrival of his dating profile and so began the conversation which led into Matt asking her out on a date. The only problem was... she was still in Ohio. dun dun dun... A week later she moved home and met Matt for the very first time on October 7th 2019.

One ordinary weekday night, Matt was just 'right swiping' away while on the toilet like he always did. This is when he got another new match! Excited at the possibility of meeting a hot girl for dinner, he turned on his charm and went to work. After a few days of very engaging conversation, and realizing that he and Julia had a lot in common, even a good friend, he decided that he would ask her out on a date. Only to find out that he was talking to a girl a million miles away in Ohio. Feeling bamboozled, he politely asked why the heck her profile said Montpelier, VT and she explained to him that she was still at college and would be moving home in a week. He waited patiently, and finally, on October 7th, 2019, he got to meet her a few days after her arrival back home. There at the Burlington waterfront, he was greeted with the quietest and most shy "Hi" he had ever heard. Though she was quiet at first, Matt was totally hooked on this shy beauty from the moment he saw her and enjoyed every single second of their date that night. They walked the waterfront, ate dinner and enjoyed cringey humor at The Skinny Pancake, and finished the night with a walk through Church Street. Eventually, they made their way back to the parking lot for what Matt expected to be a short good-bye but turned into another hour-long conversation. This is where Julia opened up to Matt about her lifetime obsession with cows and showed him her Cow themed car decor, promising it wasn't just because he was a dairy farmer. After returning home, Matt gushed for hours about the date to his friend, Josh, and knew then and there that he was in love...and the rest is history!

Julia on the other hand, had a great time on their first date, but was overrun by anxiety and wasn't able to fully appreciate the time. On her way to date #2 she sent a text to a friend telling them that Matt was a really nice guy, but she is going to tell him that they would be better off as friends. They hiked Sterling Pond and successfully conquered a corn maze. By the end of the date Julia was absolutely hooked. Thank goodness her text never sent, she came to her senses, and now on October 7th, 2023, 4 years after their first date, they get to celebrate their lives becoming one with all of their closest friends and family.

Matt returned home from his nightly chores and suggested to Julia that they go on an impromptu date out back. Matt sent Julia around the house searching for different items all the while secretly preparing for the night ahead. Early in their relationship Matt and Julia came up with a bucket list of date ideas they wanted to do. One of the big ones was a movie night under the stars in the bed of Matt's truck, so it was decided that that is what they would do that night. Once loaded, Matt drove to the back field and parked. He uncovered a picnic basket and led Julia into the woods where he had built a firepit a week prior. Julia cried because of how thoughtful Matt had been and was perfectly content with the night. A fire was started, and food was left on the fire to cook. This is when Matt, on one knee, pulled out a ring box. Julia was shocked. She knew it was coming eventually, but they were still looking at rings, how could he already have one?? On August 14th, 2022, Matt surprised Julia with the most beautiful ring by the fire and ended the night with a movie under the stars.
