Shane and Melissa met in 2021 in San Antonio, Texas at University Hospital. Shane was working as a travel nurse on the same unit Melissa was a staff nurse on. One day, in the Covid ICU, Shane had the opportunity to get patient hand-off report from her. She told him that she was about to move to Dallas for work, to which he replied, "I'm from Dallas, add me on instagram and I'll send you stuff to do." Melissa later slid in those DM's and told Shane, "I'm leaving in two days, but you can take me on a date tonight." They ended up going out both evenings and they are still working together on the list of food recommendations he sent her.
