On the last day of our anniversary getaway this year, we got up before dawn to catch the sunrise. Phil asked me to head towards the water first, and while the waves washed my feet, he made his move. He met me by the water a few moments later, and for the next few minutes, nothing else in the world seemed to exist except for me, and him, the sun, the sea, and the sky. "Well, it's been 4 years..." the sound of Phil's voice joined the chorus of the waves. Being completely oblivious to what was gonna happen next, I answered him in the typical, teasing, "Alicia" fashion and said "Yup! And you're gonna have to put up with me for 40 million more years!" I looked at him and gave him a goofy grin, knowing well that he already knew I wanted to be with him for eternity. "40 million more years?" He echoed. I replied again, "Yup!" "Okay," he agreed. And then he got down on one knee..... Time stood still. I heard myself gasp. I felt my left hand instinctively reach up to cover my mouth. The man I loved was in front of me. On one knee. Holding a GORGEOUS diamond ring. "No," I breathed out. This was not happening. "No way!" My vision got blurry. I looked at Phil, still trying to process it all. His sweet smile never wavered, never faltered. The words that had just come out of my mouth didn't even faze him. "Yes," he encouraged. "Yes way". "Yes?" I needed confirmation. "Yes," he said again. I'm sure at this point he was starting to wonder if something was wrong with me. "Yes," I repeated after him. "Yes. Yes, yes, YES!" FINALLY, I agreed. I wholeheartedly, ecstatically, giddily agreed. I felt the corners of my lips stretch from ear to ear. I felt my heart soar higher than the sky. I couldn't believe it. PHIL. WANTS. TO. MARRY. ME!! My left hand was still covering my face so he grabbed my other hand and tried to slide the ring on my right ring finger at first. We were such a nervous wreck hahaha-- we still are, but we are even more excited to wed!
