It was the night of the Rockefeller Tree-Lighting Ceremony in New York City. We were both working at a small cocktail party in Rockefeller Center while pursuing our artistic dreams. Mat was scraping food in the trash and Veronique hadn’t seen this particular waiter before. “What do you do besides this?” She asked. “I’m an actor.” He responded. “Me too…" she responded, unimpressed. "Anything else?" “I write a young-adult comic book,” he said with enthusiasm. “That’s interesting….you’re a writer?” she replied. The rest of the evening was filled with jokes as they wandered past each other while serving hors d’oeuvres and looking for an excuse to talk to one another. When the time came to leave the event, they both held back, coyly synchronizing their departure. As they were walking out together, he hooked arms with her and asked “Where are we having a drink tonight?” They started dating 9 months later, never mind what happened in between. The rest is history!
