Mathew and Natalie both grew up and went to school in Simi Valley, yet they never met! They knew the same people, been to the same places, and never knew the other existed. They both attended the same colleges, Moorpark College and California State University Northridge. They even graduated in the same year; still not once ever crossing paths. It took until 2012 for the Universe to decide it was finally time. It wasn't until Danny and Kristin hung out with Natalie, aka asked her seemingly innocent questions that were actually apart of something more, that they thought Mat and Nat should meet. After several failed attempts at getting them in the same room at the same time, they finally met! The saying, "timing is everything" truly played a part in their love story. It was at Danny's 30th Birthday party that they really hit it off. The tequila may have helped Mat with his moves. The group then went on a trip to Lake Naciemiento where Mat asked Nat out on their first official date. From there, they began steadily dating and eventually made it 'Facebook official'.

In September of 2017, after four years together, they went to Mammoth Lakes for a backpacking trip with their two friends Patrick and Olivia Field. Unbeknownst to Natalie, Mat and the Field's were anxiously waiting for the perfect spot on the hike to propose. After finishing a difficult summit at high elevation, the group reached the top to find a gorgeous, clear blue lake. Everyone eagerly took off their packs and began to take in the beautiful scenery. When posing for a seemingly innocent photo, Mat took a knee and surprised Natalie by asking her to marry him. After several high pitched squeals, and declarations of denial, a official 'yes' was given. They all rejoiced and even celebrated with mini bottles of champagne that Mat snuck in his pack, which made for great pictures and a very heavy pack.
