We met in Fall 2021 at The Cloisters through our mutual friend Félix who was visiting NYC and asked us both to meet him there. He ended up being late and Massiel was lost. Alberto noticed her and pointed her in the right direction. We quickly hit it off. So much so that Alberto didn’t notice he dropped his wallet while putting on his coat. After the museum, we went to Chelsea Market, where Alberto noticed his wallet was missing. Massiel ended up treating him to some tacos and a drink. The next day, once Alberto retrieved his wallet, he made it up to Massiel by inviting her to watch a Formula 1 race and go ice skating. However, our first “official” date was in Little Italy, and this will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We connected as we talked and laughed all night, shared pasta (instant love language unlocked), and finished what was left of the bottle of wine that Massiel spilled all over the white tablecloth (we still have that cork). This date took place on November 11th, and at 11:11pm, we both made a wish. Let's just say our wishes came true.
Eating and traveling! Those close to us know that we are both foodies and both love to travel. We often decide to book a trip after just having a random conversation about a place we would like to go next. In fact, soon after we started dating, Alberto went to DR for a friend’s wedding and to spend the holidays with his family. On Christmas eve, we were talking on the phone about our Christmas wishes. Massiel asked Alberto what he wanted for Christmas and his response was “you with a bow.” Massiel surprised him by booking a flight to DR to ring in the new year together. Our most memorable trip thus far was to Italy in September of 2022. It was very romantic strolling together through different colorful towns, eating amazing pasta (which is our favorite food), drinking crisp wines, and spending time together. We got to experience our first (because we hope there will be many more) formula 1 race in Monza, a spa date in Milan, beautiful sunsets in the Amalfi coast, the most stressful bike ride in Rome (we survived!), an authentic Italian wedding in Tuscany, and the breathtaking views of lake Como.
For Massiel’s ‘big 30,’ Alberto planned a birthday bash with Massiel's bestie Hugo. Naturally a trip (to DR) was involved. A few days before the party, Massiel, Alberto and Hugo went to Montaña Redonda in Miches for some sightseeing and pictures. Hugo, the designated photographer, was directing a shoot of Massiel admiring the spectacular view from the hilltop. When Massiel turned around, Alberto was down on one knee and popped the question. The surprise didn't end there! The birthday bash was in fact also an engagement reveal party with Massiel's closest friends and loved ones.
We are going to Japan! Since day one of our relationship, Japan has been a bucket list destination for both of us. FUN FACT: Massiel actually had a trip to Japan planned for right around the time that she met Alberto. However, those plans got canceled due to the Pandemic. Luckily for both of us, that meant we were both in NYC to meet Felix at the Cloisters instead. We are excited to be able to go on this adventure together!
