We had seen each other around school from both majoring in Space Physics and playing intramural soccer, but we officially met when Derek bravely saved my water bottle from the depths of the Optics lab. I had forgotten my water bottle after my lab class, and by the time I realized it, the Teacher's Assistant (TA) for my class had already left campus. Thankfully, Derek was also a TA for a lab held in that classroom, and he lived on campus. He bravely drove, read "rode his white stead", to the rescue, and freed my water bottle from the murky depths of the lab.

A summoning cry for help upon the distant waves of reality. Ho! I am needed, for I am but one of two to so be entrusted with the key that summons the opening of that far realm, the optics lab. Make haste my red steed, the beautiful princess sets forth a quest of mortal peril. Cunning, haste, and vigilance shall be ever needed! Soon I found myself steadying shaking hands as fingers reached that fateful key to the door. The deep rumbles of the wall, laden with the souls of lost physicists, shook me to the very core. Steadying myself, I looked back to the awaiting princess. A smile! My heart, elated on the strings of fortune, dancing with the butterflies, so did beat steady in the wake of such a gift. I turned to the entrance, and did so twist that ever taxing key. I held the door at bay. Woah beast! You shall not claim such beauty, your walls shall not nourish themselves on this pure soul. Not today! Valiantly she strode into the dark abyss of the optics lab. Such audacity, such strength! With grace and poise I watched the parting of reality as the princess became the rescuer, the very quest turned over on itself. From that fateful day did Derek find himself rescued, much like the water bottle.
