How He Asked

July 18, 2024

We'd been having Thursday date nights - biking to dinner, dressing up to walk around the crossroads - a variety of things. Mason asked if a picnic at Loose park would be fun for our next date night. Obviously! So we picked our picnic menu, a salad smorgasbord (coronation chicken salad, broccoli salad, and fruit salad), and Mason made it all! Day of, my gut felt like *it* was happening on the picnic date, but I wasn't sure. I was a mess all day at work! I paced the halls, I was staring into the distance, anything to distract myself! By 4, I had enough of waiting - I left early, picked up flowers for Mason for the effort he'd already put toward the cute date, and headed home. And as soon as I got to the apartment, I could tell he was nervous. I don't remember exact details but he just wasn't acing normal. He took a nap and then sat on the couch, clearly killing time, all the while I was itching to go to the park to see if it's actually going to happen! We finally leave and make our way to Loose. I'm anxiously talking to fill the space to try to mask my nervous energy. I'm holding his hand and his fingers are ice cold. He says mine are just hot. Well yeah! we're both nervous!! We get to Loose and go to the middle of the park to set up the blanket. We got the salads out and opened our bottle of wine. We dinked n sinked to celebrate our cute date.... and he said he had another surprise for me :') He pulls a little box out of the picnic bag, gets up onto a knee.... and I black out. All I remember is that I couldn't look at the box because I'd been having dreams that he proposed with the wrong ring! I remember he was so nervous saying whatever it was he was saying, all I could do was say "oh my god" over and over. Thank god I came back to when he asked, "will you marry me?" Obviously I said yes, he put the (correct and beautiful!!) ring on my finger, and we were so happy!
