Despite both Ashton and Jake growing up in Edmond, and even attending the same middle school and high school, it took the wonders of the internet to bring them together. In April 2024, Jake sent Ashton a “super like” on Hinge. They chatted briefly, but Ashton was skeptical about meeting someone from a dating app and may or may not have stopped replying for a few days. Fortunately, Jake had a good feeling about this one and decided to send one more message, and Ashton replied! With a busy week of finals for both of them, followed by three weeks of overlapping vacations, Jake heading to Boston and Ashton to Disney World (shocker), Jake didn’t want to wait until their return for their first date. He invited Ashton to ice cream, which she decided was a safe enough option and said yes! Jake and Ashton had their first date at Braum’s, and it was an instant click. They both left for their respective vacations, with plenty of phone calls and texts in the meantime. Once they were both back, Jake made it official and asked Ashton to be his girlfriend. She, of course, said yes! With the busyness of dental school and physical therapy school, Ashton and Jake had discussed plans for marriage but decided they should wait until both had graduated, meaning an engagement wouldn’t happen until 2026 (saddd). But Jake had other plans. In May 2025, Jake was set to join the Mason family on a vacation to Disney World (shocker, again) and decided there was no better time or place to propose than Ashton’s favorite place—the “Most Magical Place on Earth.” With everyone but Ashton in on the big secret, the plans were set. On May 13, 2025, dinner reservations were made at California Grill on the top floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Prior to dinner, everyone gathered on the rooftop balcony to enjoy the “Happily Ever After” fireworks at Magic Kingdom. During the fireworks, Jake proposed, and Ashton never saw it coming. Following the proposal, while taking the obligatory “she said yes” photos on the balcony, Ashton dropped the ring (shocker part 3) and it went right over the edge… Fortunately, the ring was safely recovered, the panic settled, and the rest is their happily ever after! ♡
