How We Met

High School Sweethearts

We had classes together since middle school, but never really noticed each other. We ended up having a lot of the same friends in high school, but still never really had a conversation with each other until we both needed prom dates to our junior prom. One of our mutual friends decided to set us up to go to prom together and long story short, I ended up backing out a few weeks before (Mason will never let me live that down). Fast forward a few months.. Mason starts texting me on and off and we start hanging out more with our group of friends. One night we were all hanging out down at the lake near my house when my best friend said she was cold and Mason gave her his Duke pullover. (Duke? yuck.) Anyways, she ended up leaving with that pullover on and then left it at my house. I wore it ALL THE TIME. It was my new favorite pullover. Mason kept texting us both trying to get it back until he eventually just gave up and let me keep it. We talked on and off for weeks until August 22, 2015 when he asked me to be is girlfriend and the rest of course is history.

The Proposal

August 22, 2019

To begin, Kaylee and I did long distance during my whole freshman year at Clemson. During that year it had been tough on both of us being six hours away from each other. We had our ups and downs and our short weekends together were just not enough for us. So I decided I wanted to prove to her that I was in it for the long haul so I took to a special place on campus. That place was the president's park, where legend goes that if you walk hand and hand with the person you're dating you'll end up married. I told her this legend on one of our long walks we'd take when she would visit and I think it did the trick. Fast forward 3 years, through all the highs and lows in both our lives we had stayed together and were still enjoying our life together. We had talked about getting married and our future for quite some time and I knew Kaylee was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. So on the anniversary of our four years, I took her down the same path that I had done so 3 years before. I walked her under the rotunda where everything you say echos through the entire structure. We talked as we always did, but then I started getting nervous about how I was actually going to ask her. So I just shot from the hip and said "I wonder how this going to sound?" as I got down on one knee and asked Kaylee to marry me.
