For many of our guests, this may be your first trip to Montana! We’d love for you to see a bit of what makes this place so special. Here are a few local sights and activities to give you a taste of the Big Sky Country experience.

Pictograph Cave State Park

Just minutes from town, this park features ancient cave drawings and easy hiking trails.

Red Lodge

Red Lodge, MT 59068

About an hour from Billings, Red Lodge is a classic Montana mountain town. Wander through the historic downtown filled with boutiques, coffee shops, and ice cream stops, or visit the Carbon County Historical Society Museum for local history. Outdoor lovers can hike nearby trails or take a drive on the Beartooth Highway, often called “the most beautiful road in America.” In the winter, it’s also home to Red Lodge Mountain Ski Resort.

Cooke City

Cooke City, MT

Nestled in the mountains near Yellowstone’s northeast entrance, Cooke City offers a true mountain-town feel and is perfect for a day of exploring or a scenic drive. Pairing Red Lodge and Cooke City makes for a stunning drive through the Beartooth Pass (seasonal, typically open late May through mid-October).

Bozeman Hot Springs

Bozeman Hot Springs is a laid-back spa and fitness spot with 12 indoor/outdoor mineral pools, dry and steam saunas, and occasional live-music soak nights—perfect for unwinding after a day in the mountains. It’s about a 2 hr 15 min drive (≈150 miles) from Billings.

Yellowstone National Park

Gardiner, MT

Yellowstone (day trip): Enter through the North Entrance at Gardiner and cruise to Lamar Valley for sunrise or sunset—think roaming bison, elk, and huge, wide-open views. It’s about 2.5–3 hours from Billings, and the Gardiner→Lamar→Cooke City road is usually open year-round, making this an easy, unforgettable adventure.
