See the volcano that housed the Autobots base! It is a great day trip from Portland, The Johnston Ridge Visitor Center is the best one to visit, about 2 1/2 hr drive from Portland. You can do a short (or long) day hike in the area too. There are ADA accessible trails at the Johnston Ridge as well.
The Columbia River Gorge is a Nationally designated Scenic Area. It is home to Oregon's iconic Multnomah Falls, but many other scenic waterfalls and vistas. it is also a popular tourist destination, so weekends can be congested, so we recommend you start early and go on a week day. It can be enjoyed a variety of ways. There are also cute towns to explore or stay in: Hood River, White Salmon, Stevenson, Cascade Locks, The Dalles
Portland has amazing access to fresh, locally grown produce. We have Farmer's Markets in many neighborhoods. In mid-July, expect amazing berries, like raspberries, blackberries, marionberries, boysenberries, as well as blueberries and strawberries. This is the largest market in town - it is an event and a Farmer's Market, with music and food to eat as well as locally grown and produced foods. Saturdays, 8:30am - 2pm. The market Amber and Mason shop in the summer and those of us in NE Portland. It hosts a nice variety of stalls, music and good food for breakfast or lunch and smaller crowds. Saturdays 8am-1pm

You can avoid congestion and parking problems by taking the express bus with a number of pick up sites, including the Gateway Transit Center which is readily accessible by train or bus with Portland's Trimet transit system.
The gorge has many beautiful hikes on both the Oregon and Washington side of the river. Some hiking paths were impacted by the 2017 wildfire. so check out options through the link. For some popular hikes the trailhead parking can fill by 10 am on Saturday.
This is a really fun way to tour the river and see Portland's many bridges for old and young alike (you might get a little wet).
At Timberline, discover the historic Timberline Lodge, built in 1937 and take the chairlift up for some spectacular views, or just have a drink or meal in the day lodge or dining room.
Mt. Hood is often called Portland's playground. It is home to skiing the winter, hiking, camping and exploring in the summer. Lots of hikiing, camping, and other recreation.
Cute coast town with lots of art galleries and cute shop and restaurants. Also views of Haystack Rock. Tolavana State Park is a nice Beach or hiking in Ecola State Park.
Combine Columbia River Scenic Byway and Mt. Hood Scenic Byway in the travel guide. A classic Oregon scenic road trip from Portland taking I-84 East to Hood River (or historical gorge highway to I-84), then Hwy 35 to Hwy 26 takes you around Mt. Hood and back to Portland. It can be easily done in a day, but you could stay in the cute gorge town of Hood River or Historic Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood.
Portland has food cart pods all over town. You can find a wide variety of cuisines, often quite authentic for affordable prices, especially if you don't mind eating al fresco. Some cart pods have outdoor seating and eating, others it is mostly just take-away.
Oregon and Portland is home to some great local beers! It was part of the start to the microbrew revolution with so many good options, brew pubs and the like.
