On February 20, 2011, Ken asked me to be his girlfriend on the Kingstree First Baptist Church bus on the way home from a youth group bowling trip - but that's not where our story started. On January 28, 2011, Williamsburg Academy (my school, the best school) played Carolina Academy (Ken's school, the second-best school) in a rivalry basketball game. Through mutual friends, we met after the game, and we have been best friends since that night. We grew up together - graduated high school, graduated college, and now after 8 1/2 years, we are finally getting married!
A day filled with time by the pool and a nice dinner with Charleston friends (I thought) turned into one of the days we had both waited for since 2011. After getting ready to "meet friends at Lake Keowee," our night started with a ride around Clemson. Ken wrote letters for six special places around the campus. From Tillman Hall to the horseshoe, he described our memories together as we grew up and attended the university. As we arrived at the Botanical Gardens, the last letter was blank - showing that we would gain a new memory together. After proposing (and a lot of crying), we were greeted by our families and enjoyed one of the best nights.
The pandemic has changed our wedding day plans, but there is so much excitement around this day!! Our wedding has been moved to Kingstree at the home I grew up in on Nathan Road. This small, family wedding will not be what we originally anticipated, but we can not wait to be surrounded by so many special people in this special place.
