Unbeknownst to Marys, Julian had been planning for the proposal for over a year. It felt like just another beautifully planned winter vacation (Per Julian's MO), since December 9th is Mary's birthday. The scene is set on beautiful Lake Tahoe, a sleigh ride to be exact... except Mary's was too obsessed with the majestic horse to realize what she was walking into.
