Our Story

High School Sweethearts

Holden and I met during those awkward middle school years. We had mutual friends and texted often. Holden built up the courage to "ask me out"- if you can even call it that- I was so excited. We "dated" for a few months. Holden eventually broke up with me; I was devastated and cried the whole night. Later, high school began, and soon after, our friendship took off. I secretly had a crush on Holden for the entire time but never thought I would have a chance. On January 11, 2014, I finally confessed -with the help of some friends- that I liked him. Turns out, he liked me too. And the rest is history. -MK As everyone has already read in Mary Katheryn’s portion of “our story”, I broke her heart in 8th grade… But who really wants to date a chubby 8th grader anyways? I did her a favor back then if you ask me. In all seriousness, our high school friendship gained an all new strength due to the fact that we were texting religiously and helping one another maneuver through horrible relationships. After about two and a half years in high school, Mary Katheryn and I found ourselves cruising some backroads with some close friends on one of those nights that you only get when you are an innocent high schooler. Mary Katheryn, being the bold gal that she always has been, confessed to me that she was crushing on me and could see us being together. Our first date was quickly set up; it was not much longer after the first date that we became an official couple. The amazing high school days were added to our memory banks, and we quickly entered into “the real world” as a potential high school sweetheart couple. Although relationships are a work in progress, Mary Katheryn and I always knew we were meant to be. After nearly seven and a half years of dating, I FINALLY proposed at the beach on July 3rd of 2021 while on a trip with some amazing friends. The joy was surreal. We cannot wait to share our wedding day with the most important people in our lives. -Holden

The Proposal

7.3.2021

The best day of my life!!! Holden and I have always loved the beach. If we aren't in Carrollton, Ga, then you can probably find us with our toes in the sand. On this particular trip, we were celebrating the 4th of July with some of our closest friends. Anna and Brandon suggested going to dinner one night at this "really nice restaurant that's right on the water." So, after a fun day soaking up the sun, we made our way to Runaway Island. When we sat down, we all agreed that we should take pictures before dinner arrived. After drinks and appetizers, we made our way to the sand. While walking down the boardwalk, I jokingly asked Holden if he was proposing. He responded with a sarcastic yes, and I did not think anything about it. As we all branched off to take pictures, Holden pulled a box out of Anna's purse and motioned for me. We walked towards the waves, and he got on one knee. Finally!! We became engaged. -Mary Katheryn Engagement day. What a sigh of relief! Mary Katheryn no doubt deserved this day. Trust me, folks, she reminded me weekly that she was ready. Our July 4th proposal weekend was one for the books! We shared this special occasion with friends that have seen our relationship grow over the years. It was no easy task to get some much-needed sleep the night before the big day. Thoughts and memories from all of the prior years kept my mind churning. Thanks to some great friends, dinner was arranged at a beachfront restaurant. Our big, thought-out plan was to go down to the beach for sunset pictures. Of course, during the pictures, Mary Katheryn looks over at me with a surprised face and says, "Are you about to propose?!". I quickly realized this would not go 100% as planned and simply replied back, "yes" to her question. The girl who just could not wait finally got her proposal day and that was all that mattered! The next few hours that night were spent in celebratory fashion! -Holden
