Things To Do

Freddy and Mary Kate have a growing list of favorites in Kansas City. If you have time to explore, here are some recommendations!
Harry's Country Club

Harry's Country Club

112 East Missouri Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64106

A fantastic patio (if weather allows) in a fun area of the city, the River Market, just north of downtown and south of the Missouri River. Emma Barnes and Gavin had their first date there, and they clearly had a blast. 😊

Pigwich

Pigwich

20 East 5th Street, Kansas City, MO 64106

Also in the River Market area is Pigwich, a Kelly family favorite for meat-forward sandwiches. Mary Kate and Freddy had such a great time during their first date happy hour drink that they ventured here afterward for dinner.

McLain's Bakery

McLain's Bakery

201 East Gregory Boulevard, Kansas City, MO 64114

Where you can typically find Freddy and Mary Kate on a Saturday morning. There are several McLain's locations around town, but the original is near St. Peter's Church. Stop by if you need an afternoon coffee before the wedding! Freddy recommends the cortado.

Mildred's Food + Drink

Mildred's Food + Drink

1901 Wyandotte Street, Kansas City, MO 64108

A wonderful breakfast just a short walk from the hotels! Freddy has become a regular at their South Plaza location.

Cosmo Burger XR

Cosmo Burger XR

1815 Locust Street, Kansas City, MO 64108

Freddy's favorite burger in town (Mary Kate always steals some tots too). We go to the location farther south on Wornall Road, but the location on Locust Street is just as tasty and much closer to the hotels and wedding festivities!

The Peanut - Downtown

The Peanut - Downtown

418 West 9th Street, Kansas City, MO 64105

A local dive bar known for BLTs, saucy wings, and cold beer. The original location is south on Main Street - near the Country Club Plaza - and the downtown location is near the hotels. Both will give you the authentic experience!

KC Barbecue

KC Barbecue

For out-of-towners looking for barbecue recommendations (or in-towners curious where Freddy and Mary Kate stand on the issue), here are our thoughts. Joe's (Maybe one of the most agreed upon contenders in the city, straight from a quintessential gas station. Freddy frequents Joe's on Monday nights when Mary Kate is at small group.) Slap's (a local favorite in the KCK neighborhood where Mary Kate used to work) Jack Stack (a more refined barbecue meal and the best beans in town)

Boulevard Brewing Beer Hall

Boulevard Brewing Beer Hall

2534 Madison Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64108

A Kansas City classic! Schedule a tour if you have time or drop by for a pint.

Alma Mader Brewing

Alma Mader Brewing

2635 Southwest Boulevard, Kansas City, MO 64108

There is a plethora of microbreweries in the Crossroads area to explore! This one is a little off the beaten path and highly recommended. If you're trying out Boulevard Brewing, Alma Mader is just a 7-minute walk south!

Up-Down KC

Up-Down KC

101 Southwest Boulevard, Kansas City, MO 64108

A great patio outside and arcade games inside! It's rumored that Mary Kate once claimed the Galaga high score.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

4525 Oak Street, Kansas City, MO 64111

We've had plenty of book club meet-ups on the front lawn. Great for a scenic stroll even if you don't go inside the museum!

National WWI Museum and Memorial

National WWI Museum and Memorial

2 Memorial Drive, Kansas City, MO 64108

Whether you're a history buff or a casual museum goer, this is a fantastic experience during your Kansas City weekend. We recommend about two hours for the museum. In addition to the general admission ticket, you can purchase a ticket for the Liberty Memorial Tower. You'll take an elevator, followed by 45 stairs, to the open-air observation deck for an iconic view of the Kansas City skyline.

Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

1616 East 18th Street, Kansas City, MO 64108

The world’s only national museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of African-American baseball. Learn about the Kansas City Monarchs' Jackie Robinson and Satchel Page!

Country Club Plaza

Country Club Plaza

4706 Broadway Boulevard, Kansas City, MO 64112

For shopping, restaurants, and fountains! Fun fact: Emma Barnes and Jim Kelly both work at St. Luke's Hospital located on the Plaza.

Kauffman Stadium

Kauffman Stadium

1 Royal Way, Kansas City, MO 64129

Although Mary Kate and Freddy differ on favorite teams, we both love a baseball game. The Royals are in town on wedding weekend! Thursday at 1 p.m. against the White Sox and then Friday night (you'll be a little busy), Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon against Cleveland.
