FAQs

Question

What is the closest airport?

Answer

The closest airport is Monterey Regional Airport (MRY), about 45 minutes north of Big Sur. It's a small airport so direct flights can be harder to come by but definitely worth looking into! San Jose (SJC) and San Francisco (SFO) are probably going to be the best bet. Please take into consideration they involve a longer drive to Big Sur (ranging from 1.5-3 hours depending on time of day).

Question

Do I need to rent a car?

Answer

Yes, we strongly recommend renting a car! Big Sur is a rural and spread out area with no public transportation and no rideshare services like Uber or Lyft so having your own wheels is essential for getting around. That said, we will have shuttles for all events, so you'll never need to worry about drinking and driving, we've got you covered there!

Question

When should I arrive?

Answer

We invite you to arrive in Big Sur on December 29th as we have special events planned for both the 30th and 31st. That said, we completely understand the nature of life—join us for whatever makes the most sense for you and we will be thrilled for any time we get to spend together.

Question

Can I bring a guest?

Answer

Due to venue capacity, we are only able to accommodate those listed on your invitation.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Big Sur in late December is cool and crisp. Temps can range from 40s at night into 60s during the day. Truly, every day in Big Sur is its own adventure. The weather can shift and surprise you, so we recommend packing mindful layers to be prepared for anything!

Question

Are children invited?

Answer

Children are warmly welcome at the Welcome BBQ on December 30th (and any other hangs). However we have chosen to keep the ceremony and reception dinner adults only and we hope you can understand and enjoy a night off! Please reach out if you need help finding childcare for the evening so you can celebrate with us fully.

Question

When/ where should we book accommodations?

Answer

As many of you may know, Big Sur is a small and magical place...which also means accommodations are limited! To make sure you have a place to rest your heads, I went ahead and reserved a block of rooms earlier this year at two wonderful spots: Fernwood Resort and Riverside Cabins. If you'd like one of these rooms transferred into your name, just reach out to me directly and I'll get it sorted. I wanted to make sure options were available for everyone before they filled up, so don't hesitate to ask! Also, feel free to reach out about any questions about accommodations in general, we know each spot well and have reccos depending on what you're looking for.

Question

Should I bring a bathing suit?

Answer

Yes! There are murmurs of a New Years Day cold plunge in the Pacific :)
