This tidal island and UNESCO World Heritage Site is unmissable when traveling to Normandy! Mont Saint-Michel is about 90 mins from our venue. Plan ahead if you want to visit Le Mont and the abbey at the top; this is one of the most popular tourist attractions in France.
The Tour de France will be nearby in Normandy at the time of our wedding. (No, we did not know this when we chose our date and venue!) Stage 5 of the Tour on July 9th will be individual time trials in the city of Caen. Stage 6, on July 10th, will be a 200km route between the towns of Bayeux and Vire Normandie. Even if you do not plan to catch part of the Tour, we want you to be aware that this event is happening in the area as there may be traffic and road closures.
The Bayeux tapestry is a 70-meter tapestry dating from the 11th century that depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. Tickets are 12 euros and audio guides are available in 16 languages. Bayeux is 25 minutes from the Manoir. It is a lovely historic town, so take the time to walk the streets as well!
This massive castle in the center of Caen (Matthieu's hometown) was built by William the Conqueror in 1060. It is free to walk along the ramparts and grounds, but the museum and art gallery are ticketed entry. Caen is about a 40-minute drive from our venue.
The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is a cemetery and memorial that honors American troops who died in Europe during World War II, mostly during the D-Day landings in June 1944. It is about a 25-minute drive from the Manoir.
