We met our first day as students at William Carey University. Friendship came naturally as we shared most classes our freshman year, although any romantic interest was far from our minds at that point. For a time after that first year, our friendship grew distant— a season that we now thank the Lord for as we both experienced maturity in our faith and character. Fast forward to the ending of Luke's time in Hattiesburg. His involvement with campus activities brought him back to town weekly, at which times we continued to make every attempt to see one another. We learned the truth of the saying, “distance makes the heart grow fonder!” Thanks to the fairly direct intervention of several friends to Mary Catherine, it was made clear that the many phone calls and coffee dates were more than friendly rendezvous. In short, an honest letter was written, feelings were expressed, and the rest is history :)
