Three Summers to Forever

Love that grew in its own perfect timing.

We met in the summer of 2018, when I was starting my first year as a lifeguard and he was the supervisor everyone admired. He worked seven days a week, always professional, always steady, making sure his lifeguards felt supported and cared for. Somewhere between long shifts, shared headaches from the sun, and end-of-day check-ins, we became true friends — the kind of friends who could vent, confess, joke, and be vulnerable without fear. We knew each other’s pasts, problems, and pieces. And somehow, that friendship became home. In 2020, I thought that chapter was over when I left for college. But something — maybe fate — pulled me back for one last short summer in 2021. That summer, I saw him differently. I told him he had a glow-up, but it was more than that. It was the way he cared, the way he protected the people around him, the softness he carried behind all that hard work. After our first “friendly” night out, everything changed for me. I fell for his gentleness, his patience, his respect — the kind of man who listens before he speaks and cares before you even know you need him to. Still, nothing happened until September 12, 2021, when I was finally no longer under his supervision and the timing became ours. That’s when he asked me to go to Atlantic City with him — my brother came too, and honestly, it made the trip unforgettable. We laughed until our stomachs hurt, thanks to my brother’s chaotic, hilarious energy. I loved watching how naturally he embraced him, how easily he fit into the joy of our little trio. Seeing him love my brother made me fall even harder. It felt like the start of something real, something long-term, something meant. Atlantic City became the best trip I had ever had. We wandered the boardwalk, we danced, we created memories that still make us smile… and yes, we got absolutely wasted at Wet Willies — a messy, iconic night we still laugh about today. But the moment that changed everything happened during one of our walks when we passed by Swarovski. I stopped at the window, pointed at a ring, and said, “Look how beautiful that is.” It was just a small moment — at least to me. But the next morning, he slipped out early, went back to Swarovski on his own, and surprised me with a promise ring. That’s when I knew. That’s when it hit me that the man standing beside me — the man who had been my supervisor, my friend, my comfort — was the man I was meant to build a life with. That night, under the Atlantic City lights, he told me he loved me for the first time. It felt like the universe had been slowly weaving us together for three years — and finally let the knots pull tight. And now, here we are: four years together and getting ready to marry one another. From lifeguard stands to late-night confessions. From laughter with my brother to Wet Willies memories. From Swarovski windows to a promise that became a future. Our story didn’t start with sparks — it started with trust, laughter, comfort, and choosing each other again and again until love naturally bloomed. And now, forever is the easiest choice we’ve ever made.
