Cades Cove Scenic Loop
Cades Cove is a famous section of Great Smoky Mountain National Park, just a short drive from Dancing Bear Lodge. It has an 11-mile one-way loop road that's great for a short day trip, including some hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities. Definitely find some time for Cades Cove on your trip!
Abrams Falls Trailhead
Abrams Falls is a popular trail hike inside of Cades Cove. It's a moderate, 5-mile round trip hike to a beautiful waterfall.
Tuckaleechee Caverns
If it’s chilly or rainy, head underground! These caverns are stunning and a fun, one-hour guided tour.
Foothills Parkway Scenic Drive
The Foothills Parkway, managed by the National Park Service, traverses the ridges of the Smokies above Townsend and features breathtaking views at multiple overlooks. The Townsend Loop: At the Townsend Redlight, turn onto Highway 321 (Wears Valley Road) and travel approximately 6.5 Miles to the Foothills Parkway exit in Wears Valley (large sign). Travel from Wears Valley to Walland and exit on Highway 321 in Walland to complete the loop to Townsend.
Townsend River Walk & Arboretum
This is a perfect place for kids to explore! This space offers a variety of plants and trees found in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in a more accessible setting. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Little River as you wander through this beautiful microcosm of the park.
Dollywood
In November, Dollywood hosts its popular Smoky Mountain Christmas festival, featuring millions of lights, holiday shows, themed decorations, and festive food.

Peaceful Side Social | Townsend
This is where we’ll be meeting up on Saturday to watch college football, but this is a great spot in general! Just moments from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Cades Cove, Peaceful Side Social is your go-to spot for incredible vibes, stunning mountain views, and great eats. It's a family-friendly hub, too. Kids will love their epic playscape, perfect for running, laughing, and letting imaginations run wild. Meanwhile, you can kick back with a cold, Peaceful Side brewed craft beer or dive into fresh bites from our Taco Bar, all while soaking in the beauty of the Smoky Mountains.
The Abbey at the Heartland Little River Chapel
This is where our Welcome Party will be Wednesday evening! This is a great local spot right down the road from Dancing Bear Lodge. The Abbey is a great way to spend a sunny afternoon, eating lunch or dinner by the river and drinking your favorite brew, whether it be craft beer, cider, sweet iced tea, or a soft drink. Their family-friendly atmosphere brings a smile to all ages! Join a friend in the corn hole or Connect Four on the patio.
