Mary’s family was on vacation in the Outer Banks for the week. They booked a fishing charter on The Release (Rom’s dad’s boat) for the second day of the trip. Oddly enough Big Rom had another obligation that morning so Rom ended up being the captain that day. It was beautiful out, the fish were hungry, and we were having an awesome time! When we arrived to the dock Rom gave me his number and the rest is history.
It was Rom’s birthday weekend and we had planned a big dinner and party at his families beach house. All of our friends and both of our parents were there. The afternoon leading up to the dinner was another typical afternoon of cooking, cocktails, and time with the people we loved. Rom asked me to come check on The Release with him. This was not out of the ordinary as he often checks the boat when the weather is rough. As we pulled into the parking lot he told me how much he loved me and he was going to ask for my hand in marriage. We got out of the car and climbed onto the boat where we first met. He got down on one knee in the cold and windy rain, pulled out a small box from his pocket that held the most beautiful ring inside and asked me to spend forever with him.
