Our Story

Sometime in late July or early August...

For those of you who don't know our story, we wanted to share a little bit about us. We met at the beginning of the pandemic - in July of 2020. We were both completely new to the online dating world. Ever the optimist, Mary was doubtful anything would come of it. She thought, "Hey, it seems to be the end of the world. So, what do I have to lose?" She finally had some guts about her. We "matched" on OkCupid - a dating website/application. Matt asked about Mary's dogs - and was curious to learn about her interests. Matt was sincere, silly, & a perfect gentleman. In true modern fashion, we chatted online for a week or so before meeting at Oliver Mill Park for a summer picnic in Middleborough, MA. Matt scoped out the spot with his mom first - to ensure it wouldn't be too "creepy" for a first meet up. We ate Panera on a checkered red & white picnic blanket - and talked for hours. We talked so much that, by the time our first date was over, the highway for Mary to get home was closed. Since Mary had a flip phone at the time, she had no idea how to get back home. Matt was kind enough to lend Mary her GPS: a bold move given how she could've kept it for herself. He took that leap of faith that a second date was coming... and it came. About 5.5 years later, Matt proposed on that same checkered picnic blanket, which he set up in our living room floor at home in Buzzards Bay, MA. Our sweet dog, named Millie after Oliver Mill Park where we met, was sensing Matt's nervousness - and was jumping on both of us throughout his proposal. It was a tearful, hilarious, beautiful experience. And we made sure Millie didn't eat the ring - don't worry! From finishing up our masters' degrees & running half-marathons to living in a studio apartment above a garage & then ultimately buying/renovating a home, we've grown together through significant milestones. We've been welcomed into each others' families: another gift we cherish. Through these experiences, we've come to understand one another more fully than ever before - and, as a result, our love has deepened. We are excited to be celebrating our union in Mary's hometown of Scituate, MA - at the historical Barker House (Matt's the history buff). We are so excited to share our wedding with you. Please know we appreciate you being in our lives - and helping us grow into the people we've become. We are so grateful to have found each other. We are excited to celebrate with you. Please come ready to DANCE!
