A 323 acre forested oval shaped headland/peninsula which juts into Lake Superior. Picnic areas, hiking, cross-country ski trails, paved roadway, white-tail deer herd with albino deer, outdoor pool and waterslide, playground, food, ice cream concession and more. Snowshoe path along the outer perimeter of the ski trails. Site of the city-owned 97 slip Presque Isle Marina as well as the Upper Harbor Lighthouse. This site is designated as an Michigan Viewing Area.
Marquette is full of excellent hikes and beautiful views. One shining example is Sugarloaf Mountain. The trailhead for Sugarloaf is just a few miles from downtown Marquette, the turnoff from county road 550 is well marked, and it's a relatively quick hike to the top where you're rewarded with one of the best views in the Upper Peninsula.
Depending on the water level, you can kayak from the Moose Rapids Campground back down to CedarHurst Lodge. That's a picture of Larry, above, kayaking down the river!
Republic Mine Observation Site. Overlooking the open pit mine in Republic, just south of Munson Park. The open pit nime is now filled with water. A raised platform offers impressive views of the Mine property and Republic area. Etched signs describe the mining process.
