It’s also a historic and charming neighborhood with federal-style architecture, cobblestone streets and design shops. There used to be a lot of bars, but the muscle of corporate retail kicked them out. Highlights include: -Georgetown Waterfront -The Old Stone House -Dumbarton Oaks -Stachowski's Market – never be hungry again. -Georgetown University -Martin's Tavern, where JFK proposed to Jackie – a bar #classy.
⏰⏰⏰ – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Open 24 hours, the famous grassy National Mall is home to iconic monuments including the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. At the far eastern end, is the domed U.S. Capitol and to the north is the White House. It's also surrounded by the various Smithsonian museums.
⏰⏰⏰⏰ – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Located off the Mount Vernon Trail, Gravelly Point is a great place to get a close up view of planes landing, and taking off, from Reagan National Airport. Bring a picnic lunch and a blanket! "I'm just sittin' out here watching airplanes..." (You can Uber to the entrance)
⏰⏰ – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ One of our favorite museums in D.C.! Witness the history of flight from the Wright Brothers’ bike-room, to the fighter jet, to the moon and beyond. (If you love planes, make time to go to the National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Dulles Airport. This location has an entrance fee).
⏰⏰⏰ – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ With decor ranging from opulent to eccentric, this quirky Victorian mansion has over 100 uniquely decorated rooms and 70 doors, some hidden. The rooms are filled with bric-a-brac and antiques. Most have themes ranging from a log cabin room to an Elvis-inspired Graceland suite.
⏰ ⏰ – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Always free of charge and open 364 days a year, the Smithsonian’s National Zoo sits on 163 acres in the heart of Washington, D.C.’s Rock Creek Park. Founded in 1889, the Zoo is currently home to more than 1,500 animals across 300 different species. Highlights include, Giant pandas; Asian elephants; Sumatran tigers; Aldabra tortoises; Panamanian golden frogs; North Island brown kiwi; sea lions; orangutans; meet-a-small-mammal demonstrations and sloth bear feedings daily; Asian elephant training; and the location of Hunter’s previous summer job two years in a row!
⏰⏰ – ⭐️⭐️ Completely void of any/all character or history, The District Wharf is Washington’s new waterfront neighborhood. With three hotels, a 6,000-seat music venue and over 50 shops and restaurants. Visit the Wharf if you’ve been to D.C. a lot, or are addicted to instagram.
