Question

"Black tie encouraged" is a new one--what's that about?

Answer

Have you ever enthusiastically dusted off your tux or a long dress for a black tie optional wedding only to arrive as the sole person --aside from the wedding party--that went all the way formal? We have too, and it's a bit awkward. Since we love a formal event and have found that there can be some hesitancy around taking the option, we're encouraging you to go for it. You won't be the only one. That said, it’s not a requirement: we want you to be comfortable as you celebrate and certainly don't want the suggested attire to feel prohibitive or create angst, extra expense or inconvenience. Note: Our wedding and reception will be indoors, so no need to worry about sand-appropriate footwear or attire.

Question

Where should we stay?

Answer

With so many rental options in the area, we thought that y'all might prefer to choose a place that best fits your needs rather than feeling beholden to a hotel block. There are a lot of great VRBOs (most prominent in the area) and AirBnBs on the island. Options in Atlantic Beach and Pine Knoll Shores will be closest to the Dunes Club. For those that prefer a hotel, the Doubletree and Hotel Atlantic Beach (formerly Hampton Inn) in Pine Knoll Shores are conveniently located to the venue and welcome party. If you're looking for something in between a hotel and a rental, there are several beach motels, inns and condo options close to the main event. Check out the travel page for ideas.
