Her Version: I had resigned myself to living life as a solitary hermit destined to endure the grinding tedium of college. While in college, unbeknownst to me, I happened to make some mutual friends of Eddie's who invited me to a beach party at Lincoln Park. It turned out that this party was for his birthday! We hit it off really well, but I, unfortunately, was not able to attend the karaoke after-party. I hadn't been brave enough to ask him for his contact info and thought I wouldn't see him again. School and the usual distractions continued. This same friend then invited me to attend a high fantasy reenactment which occurs every once in a while over the weekend. When we arrived, I was happy to see that Eddie was there and our mutual friend introduced us. I made sure to get his contact info this time! After hitting it off via text, he suggested we meet up. I had been on a string of bad dates that moved too fast, so I thought that getting late-night coffee at Cupcake Royale would be a great way to set the tone I wanted. A low-key getting to know you first. We continued to text every day and we went on new adventures every weekend. I love his sense of humor and his style. One of our first dates was Ethiopian food, which was new to me. He admitted near the end that how we engage with new things is a great way to get to know someone. I couldn't agree more and we've been on many new adventures since. His Version: August 24, 2013 – Clash of Swords in a park. I first met Katie while attending a BBQ at Lincoln Park organized by a close friend. At some point in the afternoon, we came face to face staring each other down at sword (LARP) point. I maintain that I let her win. After the swordplay, I invited Katie to the after-party (karaoke at Orient Express). She declined. September 07, 2014 – Shadow Accord Katie and I once again crossed paths, this time at my first LARP event (Shadow Accord). I was still getting used to wearing a foam LARP sword and accidentally struck her as I attempted to sit next to her. Katie cried out ‘Hey!’, my response ‘minus two’ (damage call). October 25, 2014 – The Text Wanna grab drinks sometime? November 2, 2014 – Cupcake Royal Katie and I enjoyed a ‘not a date’ cup of coffee over banter that lasted a couple of hours. November 2014 – Meskel Our next outing was grabbing dinner at one of my favorite Ethiopian restaurants. This was a test. I wanted to see if Katie was genuinely up for new experiences and how she felt about eating with her hands. She passed with flying colors. November 2014 – Rickshaw Katie invited me out to karaoke, I accepted. Her choice of venue was the Rickshaw in Greenwood. I was impressed. I vaguely recall an ample amount of alcohol, potstickers, and my horrible voice. November 2014 – Thanksgiving Not yet officially dating, Katie invited me to Thanksgiving with her fam. It was awkward in the way that it should be and I thoroughly enjoyed my time. Ask anyone about the Champagne Incident. Worth it! December 2014 Katie and I were down in the SLU area shooting pool. She bought me a Lucile and I was impressed with her taste. Later that evening after I was home, I texted her that I really enjoyed my time and was looking for something serious. Katie responded with a joke. Perfect match.
