How We Met

As luck would have it, Austin and I met at work! I have worked at Fidelity Investments for 9 years where I facilitate training classes for new employees and in February of 2015, I started a new training class and Austin happened to be in it. The class was 2 weeks long and while I don't remember all the details, I do specifically remember a few interactions with Austin. This was the year where we had a ton of snow/ice and that winter weather is exactly what started our little friendship. At the first sign of the tiniest snowflake, Austin text me and started joking about how he wouldn't be able to make it in to work (along with a picture he found on the internet of a person's front door that had been completely blocked in by snow.) *insert Lauren rolling her eyes.* He got his wish though, and there were actually 1-2 days where no one went in to work because of the ice that had accumulated on the roads. On these "snow days" Austin continued to text me about a variety of things (one of which being mimosas. who's surprised?)  On the last day of training, the class decided to do a happy hour at a bar near work, and wouldn't you know it- Austin laid eyes on the open spot to the left of me in the booth we were all sitting in and he made sure to sit there. From there the rest is really history! I always tell people, Austin and I started texting (because of snow of all things) and we just.... never stopped. Austin no longer works at Fidelity but I'm sure glad he did. He is the world's best socializer and has never had any trouble starting up conversations with strangers (my friends will tell you!) He is the most patient, makes me laugh constantly, and he is the absolute best dog dad to my nugget Winston. He really is the greatest person and I feel incredibly lucky to get to marry him.

How He Proposed

(Hint, it involves wine)

Anyone who knows us, knows Austin and I love wine. Ever since we went to Napa in 2016, we couldn't wait to get back. So in the summer of 2018, we planned another trip for October. While there, on our second day, Austin proposed in the middle of the vineyard at one of our favorite wineries, Peju. He had a private table in the vineyard and a bottle of wine to enjoy while calling everyone to give the good news. It was absolutely perfect! (Side note and a funny bit to the story- the winery made a mistake and  had everything set up the day before.. which was the day we arrived. They called Austin when we got to our AirBNB wondering where we were. Luckily after a few phone calls and a lot of nervous pacing by Austin, they worked it out and got it rescheduled for the day it was intended!) It was such an exciting moment, and we loved getting to celebrate with more wine!

For all the days along the way
