we’re getting married!

Like every other great modern love story, we met on Bumble. Our first conversation was about the Louisiana Purchase (the best land deal of all time, according to Marty) and the rest all fell into place after our first date. We had Thai food and closed the restaurant out, and then went to a bar and closed it out, and then went to ANOTHER bar and, you guessed it, closed the place out. Every date after that was much of the same - long conversations and laughter that never ceased. From the very beginning, he put in so much effort to truly get to know me: watching countless horror movies, memorizing Taylor Swift songs (and learning them on the guitar), researching vintage Nintendo games, supporting my farfetched dream of becoming an established writer, and more. I knew there was something special about him. Over time we developed our own secret language and it became clear to me that Marty understood me in a way that many others had failed at. (And if you are a Taylor Swift fan, you are deeply familiar with the fear of not being understood.) I realized that when I thought about my future, there was no scenario where it did not include him. He became my best friend. Marty declared his love for me publicly on one knee, outside the place we had our first date, with shaking hands and a nervousness that caused him to jumble his words. “Can I be your husband?” I said yes.
