Drew and Brianne met at UConn's Army ROTC program in the winter of 2015...kind of. See, Brianne had only joined the program to prepare for the summer training that she had to attend before joining ROTC in graduate school. So even though she was a senior, Brianne was the rank of a freshman cadet which meant she avoided the senior cadets like the plague and this included Drew. As such, Brianne and Drew never spoke that semester but that did not stop either of them from forming opinions about one another. Drew thought Brianne was pretty and Brianne thought Drew looked like he had a stick stuck up his butt. It wasn't until two years later that Drew and Brianne finally spoke to one another. Brianne had noticed that Drew was liking several of her posts on Facebook and this made her curious about the guy. After spending some time creeping on him, she felt a desire to reach out but she couldn't shake her impression of him from college. What if he wasn't receptive to her sending him a message? But then she noticed “Romans 1:16” written in his Instagram bio. She figured he'd have to be nice if he's a Christian, right? So she bit the bullet and "slid into his DMs," as he likes to say. The turning point in their initial conversations was when Drew told her he had a cat. The conversation that followed went something like this: Brianne: No way! What kind of cat? Drew: A grey cat. Brianne: Send a photo. I want to see! Drew: [Sends photo of cat] Brianne: OH Brianne: EM Brianne: GEE Brianne: That is NOT a grey cat! That is a Russian Blue cat and Russian Blues are my FAVORITE kind of cat! Drew and Brianne texted non-stop and video-chatted almost daily for the next several weeks. They sent such long texts that they referred to them as “novels.” They had been talking for probably three weeks when Brianne told her friend Taylor that she thought he was the one. Turns out she was right!
