Samantha and I actually met in 2016 during her freshman and my sophomore year at Texas A&M. We were in class together that spring semester as well as a running organization called TRAC. We love to joke that as we started sitting together in the auditorium, I noticed my grade in the class went up while Sam's simultaneously went slightly down (probably because I was distracting her). As any classic Aggie couple would, I asked Samantha to be my girlfriend at Midnight Yell in Kyle Field on October 7, 2016. Aggies have a tradition called "the mugdown" where they turn off all the lights in the stadium briefly during Midnight Yell. During that time, you give a kiss (mugdown) with the date that you brought to the stadium. It was during that time I officially asked Samantha and she obviously was happy to say "Yes!" Samantha and I would continue dating all through college and started to begin our careers in the professional world. I eventually would move to Dallas but then Sam would move to Houston shortly after for work. In 2021, Samantha continued to move in her marketing career which would take her to South Carolina! This was a pretty big change for both of us, but we were understanding that it was not going to be forever. Long distance for the next two years was not the easiest but luckily Samantha and I would take turns visiting each other once every 5-8 weeks. Still during all these years Samantha and I would make the most of our time by traveling all over the United States. From New Years in Times Square to snorkeling in Florida to skiing in Oregon! One thing that still has not changed for either of us is how much we love to travel. During the summer of 2023, Sam also would get a job offer with Klein Tools in Dallas! That last week of August I took Samantha on a trip to Honolulu, Hawaii to celebrate our long distance coming to an end. On one night, I took Samantha on a sailing catamaran to watch the Hawaiian sunset. On another night we went to a local luau where they invited all the couples to come dance under the moonlight. I am pretty sure Samantha was getting annoyed with all these "romantic evenings" ending with no ring! With the help of some good friends, I proposed on the beach in Waikiki on the very last night of our trip. In classic "Martin Style" I wanted to propose with a bang during the fireworks show in Waikiki. Spoiler Alert... Samantha said "Yes!" We hope to see you February 10, 2025 to celebrate our biggest adventure yet in Cancun!
