Martin’s version 😌

August 24, 2017

There was a new guy at work and I always tried to get out on the town with anyone new just to see what they’re about. His friend Ethan also came along. This was someone I normally try not to be around. More ignorant, loud, embarrassing, etc., then I could ever be. (Hard to believe, but it's true.) The night was not going well. I turned to my workmate and said, “Listen man, I’m gonna have a quick one with you guys at the next stop, then I’m out”. In we walk to this divey little bar in River North, downtown Chicago. A group of girls immediately give me the eye, which I shook off. (You're here to scope out the new guy Marty, no distractions.) My new co-worker’s obnoxious friend spotted the same group of girls that turned out to be Katie and her crew, and sent over a round of fireball as the ice breaker. As I was leaving, one of the girls came over to us and demanded we have one with them. I've always been hard pressed to refuse a polite woman, after all I’m a gentleman by nature. While the monstrosity from the south side of Chicago (my workmate’s friend) was tryin’ to have a go with whoever would listen to him, I gruffly asked the prettiest girl there what their story was. She explained they were in town for a bachelorette party, and that she was from Wyoming. At this point I realized this night just looked up a bit. Never met anyone from one of the most bovine friendly states in this country. I had so many questions and decided not to let the night go to waste. I suggested we all go to a nightclub a few doors down and promised to give them a great night out in one of the best cities. We spent the next few nights out together and parts of the remaining days of their trip. I knew that weekend if Katie played her cards close to perfect, I could see this thing going the long haul. Here we are now, planning a wedding three years later. Congrats Katie, I’m so proud of you. To Ethan, I will never like you, but thanks for the approach that night!

For all the days along the way
