Brave Skull Rock
A must-see in Joshua Tree National Park, this skull-shaped rock formation is a favorite stop for park visitors, particularly at sunset. Skull Rock is located along the main east-west park road, accessible by car or a 1.7-mile nature trail that begins across from the entrance to Jumbo Rocks Campground.
Experience sunset at Keys View
The highest point in Joshua Tree, Keys View offers round-the-clock breathtaking vistas. On clear days, visitors are treated to sweeping views of the Coachella Valley, Palm Springs, and the surrounding peaks that stretch all the way to Mexico. But Keys View is at its very best at sunset, when bright oranges and blistering reds saturate the desert sky.
Mosey on over to Pioneertown
Once a 1940s spaghetti western film set, Pioneertown has kept it's original wild west facade, but is now home to a handful of one-of-a-kind stores. Make room for horses as you stroll down Mane Street - they have the right of way! After shopping and snapping photos, wet your whistle at the Red Dog Saloon or catch a live gunfight on Mane Street.
Chow Down at Pappy & Harriet's
Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace is a honky-tonk, barbecue restaurant and music venue in Pioneertown. Musicians like Paul McCartney and Vampire Weekend have graced the P&H stage. This legendary bar and BBQ joint has become an indie rock favorite with a vibe (and serious eats!) that can't be beat.
Go Vintage Shopping and Antiquing
The Joshua Tree area is home to an amazing selection of antique and vintage shops along Twentynine Palms Highway: Discover handmade goods, quirky homewares, vintage jewelry, and one-of-a-kind fashions. Over the weekend, be sure to stop by Mercado Joshua Tree, an outdoor market of high desert artists, designers, vintage collectors and more.
