If you happen to arrive in New York a little early, don’t miss the Halloween Parade on Friday, October 31st in the West Village. It’s not your average parade - think wild costumes, music, dancing, and thousands of New Yorkers letting their imaginations run loose. It’s fun, a little crazy, and totally unforgettable - the perfect way to kick off your NYC adventure!
A New York classic! Is there anything else to say, besides, check out the store as well? Get ready to snap a selfie with some of the most iconic art pieces in the world. You'll be able to witness Vincent van Gogh's emotionally charged masterpiece, The Starry Night, and Salvador Dalí's trippy and unforgettable The Persistence of Memory. The museum also houses other groundbreaking works that shaped modern art, including Pablo Picasso's pivotal Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, Andy Warhol's revolutionary Campbell's Soup Cans, and Claude Monet's serene Water Lilies triptych. You'll be able to brag about seeing these masterpieces in person for years to come.
The less-known, edgy sibling of MoMA! Wink, wink! If you're looking for an art experience that's a little less traditional and a lot more unexpected, head over to MoMA PS1 in Long Island City, where Martha first lived in the city when she moved! Housed in a repurposed public school, this museum is all about pushing boundaries. Be sure to check out James Turrell's Meeting, a "Skyspace" that will have you contemplating the heavens, and William Kentridge's Stair Procession, which turns a simple staircase into a work of art.
If you're feeling ambitious and want to experience one of the world's greatest museums, head to the iconic Met! You could spend a week here and not see it all, but don't worry, we have a game plan for you. Make sure to stroll through the European galleries to see the stunning Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, where you'll find favorites like Claude Monet's serene Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies and our guy, Vincent van Gogh, including his intense Self-Portrait with a Straw Hat.. After that, travel to the American Wing for a special treat—the gorgeous stained-glass windows and decorative arts by Louis Comfort Tiffany (yes, from THAT Tiffany family: https://www.tiffany.com/world-of-tiffany/heritage/about-louis-comfort-tiffany.html). It’s an incredible way to see some of the most beautiful and intricate work from one of America's most celebrated designers.
After admiring the legendary “Woman in Gold”, by Gustav Klimt, try their Viennese restaurant, Café Sabarsky! By the way, Neue Galerie is across the Met, so Martha usually starts there and then goes to the Met, depending on the time she has spare to wander around.
The Library’s docent-led tours are an excellent way to see highlights of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, and the ONLY way to get group access to many of the building's must-see spaces. Check them out here: https://www.nypl.org/connect/tours/schwarzman
For a deep dive into American art, a visit to the Whitney is a must. Situated in the Meatpacking District with incredible views of the city from its terraces, the museum is home to a world-class collection of 20th and 21st-century American art. Keep an eye out for works by the legendary Edward Hopper, whose introspective depictions of American life are a major highlight. The Whitney is at the south end of the High Line park!
The Edge hosts wonderful seasonal events. One summer, Martha and Asaf joined a Sunrise Yoga session there - an unforgettable experience that made the city feel magical. Pro tip: you can book lunch at Peak (https://www.peaknyc.com/), at the bar & lounge section and get FREE access to the Edge, after meeting a minimum spend of $40 per person. Check their website FAQs in case of doubt!
For a truly unforgettable view of the city, Top of the Rock is the best observatory... and Martha has been to all of them! As she likes to say, "Who wants to go to the Empire State Building and not take a photo of the Empire State Building?!" From Top of the Rock, you get a spectacular view of all of Midtown, including that iconic shot of the Empire State that all your friends will envy.
The new kid on the block... Super fun, interactive observatory, fun for those Instagrammable photos and cute TikToks you all wanna share! Ideal at sunset!
Iconic place, scenario of so many movies and series. Do not miss it! But also... do not forget to plan your day there, as it has so much to offer. From Bethesda Fountain, to Belvedere Castle, Strawberry Fields, to the Mall and the iconic Boathouse... make sure you do not miss anything!
The weirdest and craziest park in NYC! If you go to the Edge, you can make your way from the Hudson Yards luxury mall into the High Line and check out the public art display. Take a cute photo with the Dinosaur (a gigantic pigeon!) and stroll south to the Meatpacking District, to the Whitney Museum, Little Island and Chelsea Market.
This was the first Israeli place that Asaf took to Martha in NYC (to their Williamsburg location). Among our favorites: schnitzel, chicken shipud, shakshuka (for brunch!), the labneh, spicy platter, hummus and falafel and top it off with a Goldstar beer or Arak lemonade!
Another amazing Israeli place, near our home... take the labneh, spicy grilled halloumi, the shawarma, lamb kebab... this place feels like Tel Aviv!
Groovy place for brunch or sexy music at night. Port Sa'id does not disappoint if you are looking to experience more of those Tel Aviv nights Asaf has shared with Martha.
A very romantic restaurant with a special meaning to Martha & Asaf... Eyal Shani is one of Israel's top chefs, with several restaurants under his guidance. Cozy, dark and full of surprising things on the seasonal menu, if you are looking for a date spot in NYC, do not miss this place!
Israeli-reinterpreted menu... this place will play around with classics and bring new flavors to the table. Martha & Asaf have welcomed here their families and friends.
Los Angeles used to be the place for Mexican food in the US... no more! If you are looking for legit tacos, head over Brooklyn... The Greenpoint and Williamsburg neighborhoods have the best and more authentic tacos you'll find on this side of the Rio Bravo. With Mexican chefs and staff leading these places, explore these taquerias and tell Martha & Asaf which one was your favorite.
Classic Mexico City tacos... find them right here! Chef Gio will provide a lifetime experience at Ramirez. They opened during the pandemic and were one of the trailblazers in bringing tacos al pastor the way a taco al pastor should be. Do not miss!
Flatiron and Tribeca locations: this is a fancier Mexican place, with Veracruz influence (Martha's home state in Mexico!). If you wanna dig deeper into Mexican food beyond tacos, get some dinner at Casa Carmen, a family-owned business with lots of tradition.
