Elberta Life Saving Station

The Elberta Life Saving Station sits on the shore of the Betsie Bay in the Village of Elberta Michigan. The building was built in 1887 as a station for the U.S. Life-Saving Service. Its purpose then was to watch for ships or sailors in distress on Lake Michigan. Use of the original rescue station ended in 1935 and the facility was repurposed to be used by the railroad for offices and a marine center. In 2000 the Village of Elberta purchased and restored the building incorporating it into the Elberta Waterfront Park. Today the facility is used as a place people can rent for various events.
