Dan found work straight after graduating from UMD and moved to Centreville, VA in 2007. After two years of teaching English in Japan post graduation, Marta crash-landed in Alexandria, VA in 2015. Everyone in the DC area knows dating is...iffy. You either land a "marketing specialist," lobbyist or bartending vampire (same blood-sucker, different working hours). After meeting too many of the latter, Marta opened her laptop and created a profile. Two of Dan's photos stood out among the rest: the large, fluffy dog rolling in the snow with him, and the green dinosaur onesie. After a few message exchanges, they agreed to meet for drinks and grilled cheese in September 2016. They discovered they had a lot in common: growing up in Maryland, a die-hard passion for blue crabs, a love of travel, dogs, and wine. They went on more dates including dog parks, wineries, breweries, binging "The Office," and the classic dinner-and-a-movie. In December, Dan invited Marta to join him on a business trip to Denver, CO. Over dinner at Avery Brewing Company, Marta said it first: "I love you." Since then, they have traveled together (Iceland, London, Germany, Switzerland...) and grown together (changing careers, yikes!), always supporting each other and ready to back one another when needed. Cut to February 21, 2021. They came home after a rare day when they both had time off to brewery-hop and see friends. Marta sat in the living room to play with the dog while Dan disappeared downstairs. When he came back, he knelt down behind her. As Marta turned around, Dan opened the small box in his hands to reveal a gorgeous, unique ring he had designed himself. Fans of "The Office" will appreciate what came next. Dan: "Marta, marrying me will you be?" Marta: "Your wife becoming be will I." Crack a beer, pop the champagne! It is our wedding.
