Exploring Kingston
Kingston is full of cute restaurants, bars, cafes, art galleries, and shops. For train and boat enthusiasts, check out the waterfront neighborhood's Trolley Museum of New York and the Hudson River Maritime Museum!
Shopping in New Paltz
New Paltz, a college town about a 20-minute drive south of Kingston, has a super cute downtown with lots of great art studios, vintage shops, and cafes. SUNY New Paltz also hosts the Dorsky Museum of Art.
Eating
The Hudson Valley's restaurant scene has exploded in recent years (I sound like the New York Times Real Estate section) and it is all to our benefit! This list includes our top faves as well as the top spots we're dying to try. In Accord: Harana Market (James Beard award-nominated Filipino restaurant), Westwind Orchard (cider, wood-fired pizza, lawn games), Arrowood Farms (brewery and laid back farm-to-table), Inness (hotel restaurant with insane view). In Kingston: LOLA (pizza and wine), Mirador (tapas), Chleo (wine bar with veg-forward small plates). Elsewhere: Stone House Tavern, Mill & Main, Kerhonkson Diner.
Hiking
Accord sits in the Rondout Valley, with views of the Catskill Mountains to the north and the Shawangunk Ridge to the south, so hiking opportunities abound!! Easier/more accessible options include the O&W Rail Trail and the Ashokan Reservoir trail. You can also get a $15 day pass to hike Mohonk's many trails and even attempt the infamous Lemon Squeeze. Ask us (and then we will ask Claire's mom's boyfriend Mark, Shawangunk hiker and climber extraordinaire) for any other or personalized recs!
Golfing
We have not been to any of these golf courses but hear they are nice: Mohonk Golf Course, Inness Golf, New Paltz Golf Course, Wiltwyck Golf Club, The Twaalfskill Club, Green Acres Golf Club.
Apple Picking
Pick your own apples at Saunderskill Farms, which also hosts a great market and bakery!
The Spa at Mohonk Mountain House
Booking a treatment at Mohonk's spa gives you access to a private spa deck and jacuzzi, the Mountain House, and the resort's grounds.
Original World's Largest Garden Gnome
Known as Gnome Chomsky, this large lawn gnome is no longer the world's largest, but it is still pretty big.
