Her side: We met on October 5th, 2019 - the day after National Taco Day. Naturally, we met for margaritas. I was so nervous, that I didn't talk much for the first part of our date. Jack had to do most of the heavy lifting in the conversation. He must have thought I'd make a quiet girlfriend - man, was he wrong! It wasn't until I showed Jack a funny Youtube video of me that I really started to open up. To my surprise, Jack actually found humor in the video. It was clear that he understood my sense of humor! From that date on, we were pretty much inseparable. I even surprised him by going to his crossfit gym one day - even though he never asked. Now we get to be gym buddies together every morning! We've been through so much in the short years we've had together so far. A global pandemic, a hurricane, starting a business, buying a house, and of course taking care of our two cats - Meeko and Slinky. It's clear that we can make it through anything together. I can't wait to marry my best friend, to continue to conquer the world together and to have a few more margaritas along the way! His side: I was swiping on Bumble one day and remember coming across Crystals’ profile. She was wearing a nice black top and jean shorts with sunglasses, which I later learned was a picture from a girl’s trip to New Orleans. I swiped right. I can’t remember how long it was after that, but I got a notice that she had swiped right, too, and it was a match putting it in her court to make the first chat. She told me that my bio joke was funny, and it helped pique her interest. This will come quite a shock to most who know that my joke telling skills are very dad joke level at best. We spent the next few weeks casually chatting on the app until I asked her on a date so we could meet in person. October 4, 2019, was national taco day and so I thought meeting at a Mexican restaurant for the occasion would be simple and somewhere public. The issue was that I needed to be well rested for a triathlon the next morning and so we agreed to pretend October 5th would be national taco day and meet then instead. When I pulled up in the parking lot, we both could see each other from our cars and got out. I said “Hi are you Crystal?” to which she nodded and didn’t say anything. I went in for a little side hug and told her it was nice to meet her in person finally. We went in and sat in a booth. It was late and she had already had dinner, but I was starving from the morning. She drank margaritas while I ate and drank margs. I remember she was very quiet and didn’t say a whole lot. I talked and talked about I don’t even remember. As I ate and talked, I was thinking of a way to get her to loosen up a little. It just so happened to be karaoke night at the restaurant. I finished eating and excused myself to wash my hands. When I came back, I decided to take a chance. I sat down next to her in the booth instead of across. For the rest of the evening, it wasn’t about awkwardly trying to make small talk. Instead, we drank margaritas and listened to people try and do their best karaoke and joke about what we had heard. It was the breakthrough moment that the two of us, who didn’t know each other, realized we could sit and enjoy each other’s company. As the night progressed, she opened up to me in ways no one ever has with me on a first date and I reciprocated the vulnerability. That night was the first night two strangers became best friends. Screw “Live, Laugh, Love”. This is a house of “Joke, Laugh, Drink Margaritas!”
