How We Met

2/18/17

Our unlikely love story started on tinder not really expecting to find anything real. The first time I saw Jess was a picture of her on a motorcycle, and my interest was sparked. I scrolled down and found her Snapchat handle and watched her stories for a few days. I noticed that she was fun, bubbly, and had a great smile, so I asked to take her out on a date. She happened to be free (rare), and we met at Sharp Edge on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh. The conversation flowed easily and we bonded over our love of motorcycles, winter sports, the outdoors, and our expectations for the future. A few friends were having a bonfire and I didn't want the night to end so we went over. The night ended with me walking her back to her car and sending her off with a hug and hopes to see her again. Our second date was a few days later at the gun range, and I knew I was hooked.

When She Knew

5/7/17

I was in no hurry to be exclusive, having recently gotten out of a very controlling relationship when I met Joe. I knew that it would take someone extraordinary to change my relationship status. While Joe was very upfront about me being the only person he was pursuing, I was not yet convinced. In May, I went on a date that turned out to be awful. I left early, frustrated, and called Joe. He asked if I wanted to come to his house to vent where he was working on a friend's car. Hesitantly, not wanting to interrupt, I said ok and drove to his house where he stopped what he was doing, looked me in the eye, and listened to me rant about this date with another guy. There was no judgement or jealousy in his eyes and in that moment I knew.... this is my best friend. It was another month and a half before we made it "official", but that was the last bad date I ever had.

The Proposal

8/11/18

A few weeks before the proposal, I asked her dad to a one-on-one dinner, engagement ring already in hand. I'm sure he knew what I wanted to ask him, and he came prepared. We went to Bonefish Grill and started talking. I asked for his blessing, and in turn he aired what his thoughts, appreciations, and concerns were, and after a long discussion, it ended with permission to ask his daughter for her hand in marriage. Fast forward a little bit, I hopped on a flight to Denver, Colorado, anxious and excited to begin the most memorable vacation to date. On Saturday, August 11th, we went to Red Rocks Amphitheater to check out the iconic venue and go hiking through the property. We stopped under a small tree along a hiking trail and I took the opportunity to get down on one knee and profess my love and ask her to spend the rest of our lives together. She said "yes", of course. She was glowing with so much joy that bystanders at the trail head immediately noticed and asked if she just got engaged. Later that day, we went to the top of Mt. Evans where we got an incredible impromptu engagement shoot at sunset from Andrew Blackwell, and even got to see a meteor shower on the way back down! The whole day just fell into place and it could not have been more perfect. Her Aunt Suzanne said it best.... not only did we have her father's blessing, but God's blessing as well.

The Marriage

2/22/19

We like to joke that I (Jessica) picked the date before I picked the man.... However, when Joe proposed, we did not want to wait another 2 years to be married. So often I feel like people get so caught up in the wedding planning process that they forget to plan for the marriage. By getting married before the wedding, we were able to fully focus on preparing for our marriage. We had an intimate ceremony on February 22, 2019, with just immediate family in attendance. We are absolutely thrilled to be able to celebrate again with all of our extended family and friends!
