The year was 2017. Ally was working at Rockdale Baptist Church. Chris had just graduated from college. Chris' uncle, Billy, the pastor at Rockdale, tried setting them up. They became friends on social media. Ally asked Chris out to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert, but he wasn't able to come. So they never wound up meeting in person. Radio silence. Fast forward to 2020. Covid-19 was happening. Ally's dad, Brad, unexpectedly passed away on Father's Day, and so she decided to move back home to Cartersville. One weekend while back in Conyers before packing up a load of things to move back, Ally and Chris finally met at his cousin's graduation party. Just a few weeks before, Chris had applied to the Cartersville Fire Department, where his grandad had been a fireman that was hired by Ally's great-grandad who served as fire chief. They started talking, Chris came down to interview with the fire department and they went out on their first date on August 20, 2020. Not too long after, Chris was hired by the Cartersville Fire Department and made his way to Georgia. They fell in love and the rest is history!
Six months was all it took! After falling in love and knowing they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, Chris bought the ring and came up with a plan. They traveled to his parent's house in South Carolina one weekend to move his stuff out of his old apartment. Ally wasn't suspecting anything. That Saturday afternoon, Ally went with Rhonda to the store to get some things for dinner. When they got back to the house Chris suggested they go for a walk on a trail along the property. The trees along the trail had been covered with paper hearts that listed all the reasons why Chris loved Ally. (Cue the tears.) The last tree on the trail had "Will You Marry Me?" burned into it. Chris got down on one knee and asked and Ally said YES!!!
