Travel & Accomodations

The Wedding Website of Danielle Stark and David Krueger
Pack your bags! I wanted to take a moment to outline some very important travel information. For my West Coast friends and family, I’m so excited to bring y’all to the keys! It’s truly Margaritaville. A little overview: the Florida Keys are a chain of islands that extends from the southern tip of Florida to the southernmost point of the United States. It’s the closest land point to the southern neighbor Cuba, hence why you’ll have the best rice, beans, and plantains of your life but thats not the reason were all heading down there… The islands are strung together by a series of large bridges (google the famous 7 mile bridge) and have one road in, and one road out. Islamorada is the Sport Fishing Capital of the world and the entire keys community is local, lively, vibrant and low-key. That being said, it is *very busy* on a holiday weekend and it’s important to understand and plan your travel accordingly.

Travel Note

ISLAMORADA TRAVEL INSIGHT

Plan to arrive on Thursday or by early Friday morning to Miami. You can stay overnight Thursday. With holiday traffic, I suggest driving to Islamorada first thing in the morning! Sunday traffic returning to the mainland is t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e despite the beautiful view as you creep along at 10 MPH. I suggest staying through Monday, or leaving super late night Sunday if necessary. The couple and immediate family will be arriving in Islamorada on Thursday 11/28 and staying through Monday 12/2.

FLYING

The closest major airport is Miami international, about 90 minutes away.

Having a rental car will make getting down there and exploring the islands much easier. If you can share cars with friends, all the better! There are definitely Uber/Lyfts around, but keep in mind the Florida Keys are very small islands so rideshare on a holiday weekend is likely very limited. I’ll do my best to check in with everyone as the RSVPs are submitted and who can potentially carpool together.

Travel Note

HOTELS INSIGHT

This island is one of the larger keys and has a variety of accommodations but there are NO Airbnb/VRBO options, thus hotels are the primary option. I did tons of research for you, so let me explain a bit. The keys certainly boast Old Florida charm, so dont be surprised when you see resorts called Motels (lol). Booking near the venue, or at the southern part of Islamorada is super important. Again, because it is a holiday weekend and the roads are small, even short distances can take a long time. It can be temping to book on another island north or south of Islamorada but what you save in dollars you'll spend in time in traffic. I highlighted a few of the best hotels at different price points given their price/amenities/location. Many of the hotels offer free bicycles for guests which can make it fun and easy to get around!
