It feels like just yesterday… Clarence and I first crossed paths at my father’s restaurant, Leonore’s, which once sat in the heart of downtown Roanoke, Virginia. That night was full of energy — his best friend, Rich, was performing at Open Mic Night, and I happened to be behind the bar. The occasion was even more special because it was also his sister Malinda’s 30th birthday, and the room was buzzing with celebration. At one point, I slipped away to the restroom, where I found Malinda and her friend enjoying the night — living it up, full of laughter and liquor, as girlfriends do on a night out. With a friendly smile, she struck up a conversation and mentioned that her brother had noticed me earlier in the evening and was hoping to meet me. I couldn’t help but blush. Curious, I asked her to point him out. The moment we stepped back out, she described what he was wearing — and instantly, I spotted him across the room. It was like something out of a fairytale. We locked eyes, shared a smile, and before long, he walked up to introduce himself. The connection was instant. After exchanging numbers and sharing countless conversations, we began spending more and more time together. Our bond grew effortlessly and beautifully — what started as a spark turned into something extraordinary. Today, we share a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising our gorgeous daughter. We continue to grow not only as partners but as a family, building a future filled with intention, adventure, and deep connection. When people say, “you just know,” they’re right — because from that very first night, we just knew.
