Marley and I met at Sunday service. I remember one instance before church started where I was standing at the soundboard when she walked over and lingered about 15 feet from me. I hyper-analyzed the situation: Should I smile and wave? Should I just pretend like I'm working really hard running the soundboard, even though nothing is playing? I decided to kind of smile in her direction. God only knows how cringy and awkward I was. But she didn't seem to see it as she began conversing with a friend who walked over to her. Fortunately, after the service, we went out to Pizza Hut with the whole group. It was no accident, at least on my part, that we managed to end up sitting right next to one another. Her bubbly excitement about everything was highly attractive. Not to mention, her breathtaking beauty. Which made me wonder how there isn't a myriad of strapping young gentlemen also following her around like a pack of lost puppies. A girl like her generally has a significant number of potential prospects. All of which, are probably taller, more athletic, more basically everything than me upon first impressions. I knew I would have to play to my strengths. Now, being an outgoing, goobery, nerd is generally not everyone's best play, but I knew I could at least get her attention. She and I dominated most of the table's conversations. We're both dramatic, we're both comical, we like to be at the forefront of the fun. Upon leaving, I anxiously awaited our next meeting. I would do a tremendous amount of schoolwork during the week in an effort to prevent my Sunday night deadlines from getting in the way of our spending time together. I remember encouraging group-outings with extreme commitment. I didn't care what the activity was as long as I was there to follow her around like a lost puppy. Still am.
