Growing up in Soledad, CA, we lived half a mile away from each other. Despite living in a small town, going to the same high school, and even having mutual friends, we never met. On December 22, 2015, while Marlene was visiting Soledad for the holidays, Bridesmaid and good friend Michelle coordinated drinks to introduce us at the only bar in Soledad. Ricky suspected Michelle was trying to set him up and brought his cousin/groomsman Cristian to have pizza and drinks with Marlene and Michelle. When Ricky added Marlene on Facebook and Fitbit a few weeks after they met, she realized he was interested. We spent two-three months flirting over Fitbit competitions (Marlene obviously won) and messaging each other on the app. After being convinced by best man Tim, Ricky spontaneously bought a flight to Colorado to visit Marlene for her birthday and make the relationship official. They started long distance as Marlene completed her masters degree in Denver and Ricky taught in Los Angeles. Once Marlene moved to LA, their adventures continued in the city of angels. Ricky proposed to Marlene while on a hike to the turquoise waterfall of Rio Celeste in Costa Rica on October 7th 2018. We are excited to celebrate our wedding with loved ones in Ensenada, the first vacation we took as a couple.
