The First Block
Exactly one year before the day of our wedding, we went on a long drive up to Estes Park. We discussed what a marriage would mean for our relationship. By the end of that drive we had 5 values to help us define our relationship. To represent these values, we are creating a wedding quilt together. During our wedding, we assembled the first block, made of 5 fabrics to represent each value, and another 4 chosen by each our our parents. Both of our families have a history of making quilts, and we've even completed our own together. We both like quilts because they are something made to be used, keep you warm, and last a long time because they don't need to be pristine forever, they can be patched.
Pick your own fabric
We invite you to help us continue this quilt by contributing a fabric of your own over the next year. We'll always have this quilt to remind us of the community around us. You can either bring a fabric to the reception, or send it to us. We need one "Fat Quarter" or one 1/4 yard cut of fabric. The fabric can be anything you choose that reminds you of us, or represents one of our values to you, or that you just like. It can be new, or something you already have. Treelotta and Fancy Tiger are two of our favorite local places to support.

Communication is the start of the quilt. And the start and key to our relationship. The other values build on it. Generosity - A generosity of time, spirit, and the energy spent on each other and the people around us. Curiosity - Learning new things, trying new things, accepting the change that comes from learning, and staying humble about the things we don't know. Conscientiousness - Our actions affect each other, and also radiate out to our friends, family and the community around us. The way we choose to spend our money impacts our local and global community. Community - Our lives continue to exist beyond just the two of us. This is also about intentionally trying to create gatherings for community, and make the neighborhood we are in better.
