Wedding Party

-Meet our beloved wedding party-

Madison Steel-Brigman

Matron of Honor

I’ve known sweet Marla since the moment she was born. She made me a big sister and instantly became my best friend for life. We grew up sharing bedrooms, secrets, clothes, and more laughs than I can count. We can communicate with just a glance or half a sentence of gibberish and always know what the other is thinking. We have the same humor, the same mannerisms, and the same eyes (thanks Mom!), but more than that, we share a connection rooted in love, loyalty, and years of memories. Though she’s my little sister, I’ve always looked up to Marla. She carries herself with grace, creativity, strength, and that effortless style that still makes me want to sneak into her closet. She’s one of the most special people I’ve ever known, and having her as my sister is one of the greatest gifts of my life. I remember hearing about Scott on a trip to Nantucket. Marla started getting letters, flowers, and sweet surprises from a mystery guy in LA. I was nervous at first—she’s still 10 in my head—but seeing how he pursued her with intention, kindness, and so much heart, I knew he was special. Getting to know Scott made it clear God planned for them to be together. Watching them grow has been such a gift. They’re resilient, hardworking, talented, faithful, and generous—a true power couple. My prayer is that you always keep God first and each other second. With that foundation, you’ll weather any storm and flourish in every season. I can’t wait to cheer you on in this beautiful new chapter.

Juliette Barlier

Maid of Honor

Back in 2011, eight-year-old Marla and I crossed paths at the local ice skating rink and recognized each other from ballet class. The next day at The Ballet School, she brought me take-apart erasers and asked to be friends. The beginning of a lifelong friendship was sealed over ice, erasers, and pirouettes. From playdates in Alamo to lemonade stands and candy shop runs in Coronado, and then onto Paris, Montreal, and LA, we’ve carried each other through every season, filled with moments of laughter along the way. Marla is full of drive, curiosity, and openness – she lights up every room and moment. She will take big leaps--spending summers in Italy and France to work and study. I’m so grateful to have witnessed our friendship grow as we’ve grown. I’ll never forget when Marla told me about meeting Scott at the gym, and a few months later, how he surprised her with letters and gifts in Italy – it all just made sense. He matches her drive, and he’s willing to take those big leaps right alongside her. Together, they’ve built something genuine, strong, and inspiring. So here’s to Marla and Scott. To more travels, more laughter, a new home, and a lifetime of love. I’m so proud and honoured to be part of their special day.

Anne Marie Kretowicz

Bridesmaid

I met Marla when she was just four years old, after her dad asked the front desk at our ballet school if anyone knew of a good babysitter, and somehow that moment turned into one of the greatest gifts of my life. I’ve always fallen somewhere between Marla’s babysitter, big sister, and close friend. From eating cookie dough out of the bowl and staying up late to watch a movie under the promise that she would pretend to be asleep when her parents got home to real conversations about life and love, watching Marla grow into the woman she is today has been one of my greatest privileges. When Marla first told me about Scott, I remember thinking man, is this guy persistent! In the very best way—because Scotty’s unstoppable golden retriever energy and his absolute certainty in what he wanted are exactly what won her over. His love for her is impossible to miss, it’s written in every gesture. He balances her beautifully and has a way of settling her busy mind, all while keeping her laughing. And truly, what more could you want for the people you love most than someone who thinks of them in every move and decision, who shows up every day with care, devotion, and that signature Scotty sunshine. So here’s to a lifetime of that kind of love – and to me keeping my front row seat to Marla’s life, now in its “happily ever after” chapter!

Tyler Heineman

Best Man

My brother and I grew up competing in everything. Whenever I was the best at something, he would work to become better than me. I will always remember throwing to him in our backyard batting cage, and no matter how well he did, it was always “one more.” This used to drive me nuts, but it showed me how dedicated he was to being the best. This sibling rivalry pushed us to excel in sports, and I certainly wouldn’t have succeeded without him. Scott goes after what he wants. I admire his drive and commitment, and he carries that into his relationship with Marla. From their shared love of Jesus to the most extravagant marriage proposal I think I’ve ever seen from someone not named a Kardashian—that’s how they do it: all in, 100%. I wish them a lifetime of happiness and growth.

Groomsman

Scottie and I met sometime during our senior year of high school while playing baseball together on a travel team. We hit it off right away and decided to room together our freshman year at Oregon. On the day we moved in, Scott walked into my room, gave me a spare key to his car, and told me to take it whenever I needed it. I obviously thought he was a little crazy, but the cool thing is—he meant it. From the moment I met him, and still to this day, Scottie has been the kindest and most selfless friend I have. Much like my experience with my wife, Scott’s life began to change when he met Marla. I remember being with Scott one night after a game when Marla told him to “ask Jake about Jesus.” So he did, and we talked until 3 a.m. that morning about Jesus and the good news of the gospel. That night changed Scott’s life forever, and it all started because of that little encouragement from Marla. I thank God all the time that He led them together when He did. Marla has been a rock for my best friend, and it has been such a privilege to watch them grow in their faith together. I pray that God will bless your marriage and continue to draw you near to Himself. I love you guys and cannot wait to celebrate with you!

Groomsman

Scott and I met before his freshman year in college. We played summer baseball together and everyone was confused at how good this kid from high school was. We spent the summer together and I was able to show Scott what college life was like before he went to Oregon. Scott and I have shared some amazing life moments together. From watching him make his major league debut in Texas, to his first date with Marla in San Diego. Scott’s the person who will drop everything to help you in a time of need and will do anything for his friends. He’s one of the most thoughtful people I’ve ever met and I’m honored to have him in my life. Scott and Marla are the perfect couple. They compliment each other so well and always put the lord first in their relationship. From the moment Scott called me and said he met his future wife at a gym, but she wouldn’t give him her phone number…I knew she was special. They make each other so happy and I can’t wait for their future together! Welcome to the rest of your life. I’m so excited to celebrate with you and can’t wait to see what you both accomplish together in the future. The lord has blessed you with a divine love you are an amazing team. I love you both, cheers to you!
