Our story begins with two broken rules. When Natalie's mom and dad dropped her off at college for the first time, two specific rules were given: 1. Don't date a guy that doesn't live in California. 2. Don't go cliff jumping. Well, one hot Arizona day at Lake Havasu on a spontaneous group camping trip, Natalie went cliff jumping and met her Montana man. The next week, Natalie saw Tanner again in GCBC, the campus coffee shop, and said hi. Tanner quickly realized Natalie's GCBC studying schedule and made sure to be there. After months of sitting together at GCBC multiple times a week, and getting to know each other, Tanner finally asked Natalie on a date. After several dates, we finally made it official over a cup of hot tea in Natalie's dorm room after a late-night dorm fire alarm. The rest is history.
We both knew the proposal was coming in the fall since it was our last semester being in the same state for a while. Natalie booked her clinical rotations every weekend except for her birthday weekend. So, Tanner told Natalie he was taking her on a "birthday date" the day before her 22nd birthday. After a wonderful Italian dinner, we walked around Carefree, AZ where there were fountains and lights. On a little bridge, Natalie turned around to see Tanner on his knee. She said yes, and friends popped out from behind to celebrate and take pictures. It was the best birthday surprise, for sure.
