Mark and Nathan met the old fashioned way- in real life! Mark "accidentally" bumped into Nathan at a bar in SoMa, a San Francisco neighborhood, and after a few minutes of chatting, asked for Nathan's phone number which led to a dinner date the week following.

Mark surprised Nathan by taking the ferry to Tiburon for a supposed lunch. They went for a stroll along the waterfront until they arrived at a stone turret overlooking the bay (photo below). Mark was trying to wait for another family who were at the turret to leave, but they remained until he ran out of excuses to stay. So, he got down on one knee and proposed to Nathan with a small crowd of witnesses. Nathan said yes.
