The word is that and airbnb may be more affordable than a hotel (this weekend may be busy with "back to school" students/families). You may want to start here, and perhaps share with a friend? Try Berkeley, N. Oakland, El Cerrito, Albany, Emeryville, or Pt. Richmond (near the wedding venue). Of course there's lovely San Francisco (across the bay, a bit further from us and the festivities).

This is a couple of blocks from our house in Berkeley (this is where they put some musicians up when they play the Freight & Salvage). Close to us, downtown Berkeley, BART, restaurants/bars, and anything/everything you probably need.

This is right in Downtown Berkeley, less than a mile from our home. Close to everything - us, restaurants/bars/cafes, BART, etc.

Even if you don't get a room here, there's a lovely rooftop lounge with drinks and yummy food.

OPTIONS for getting to/from San Francisco or short jaunts. Our local subway and ferry (good for getting to/from San Francisco), and of course, Uber/Lyft.
